PRODUCT SERIES

Specialty Series

Special effects and niche uses.

What this series makes easier

Some parts carry no load and complete no mechanism. They get printed, picked up and looked at: a gift object, a presentation model, a piece that sits on a desk, the visible shell of a design. What decides the outcome is not how much the part can take, but how it meets the light.

Specialty is built around that job — a part that looks finished without being painted, coated or sanded. The surface is not a post-processing step; it comes out of the spool itself.

Which material family to look at

Effect surfaces sit on the PLA side. As a material family, PLA+ sits at the top step for ease of printing and at the widest step for surface options — but specialty is defined by the effect types in that family, not by the family itself:

On the printing side they share one thing: they are all PLA. No enclosure, no Direct Drive extruder, no special machine. Someone printing their first spool can move to these types too — the difficulty is not the printing, it is predicting what a given effect will do on your part.

When to look at another series

If the surface brought you here but the part has an actual job to do, the choice changes:

  • The part will carry load, or be fitted and removed repeatedly → Functional
  • The part will stay outdoors, in sun and rain → High Performance. PLA as a class does not hold up to heat and outdoor exposure the way PETG does; don’t ignore that for the sake of an effect.
  • The part needs to flex and spring back → Flexible
  • You are not after an effect at all, just everyday printing → Standard

Practical notes

  • Temperature. The brand states values for some of these types: for PLA Matte Mystic and PLA-Marble, nozzle 190–210 °C and bed 60–75 °C. For the other effect types, start from the values on the spool’s own product page.
  • Storage. Keep the spool closed and dry when you are not printing.
  • Surface. An effect changes with the light and the viewing angle. On the shifting types the colour travels along the part, so the same spool reads one way on a small piece and another way on a tall one. Treat a product photo as an example, not as the only possible result. Matte surfaces soften layer lines while silky ones make them more visible — with a glossy effect, a lower layer height helps.
  • Diameter. Filament diameter is 1.75 mm across the products in the collection.
